For India to become a developed economy, all our citizens should have a right to education and employment. This can only be possible if we linguistically integrate the numerous minority communities into their state or national languages. Bilingualism and community empowerment is the key.

The goal is to make all communities that are isolated because of their unique language, bilingual, to further themselves and become a part of vibrant India

The goal is to make all communities that are isolated because of their unique language, bilingual, to further themselves and become a part of vibrant India

How We Work

Method

The mother tongue speakers learn to be literate in their own language using the state language script. Culturally contextualized stories, symbols and illustrations familiarize them with their state language script. Thereafter, their proficiency in the state language script makes them adept to learn the state language using freely available primers in print and online.

Participants

A group of mother tongue speakers, form a literacy club backed by 100 signatures from the community. Spearheaded by this group, we associate with LITE, a linguistic consultancy to develop their language which is hitherto only spoken into a written form. The community is extensively involved in the development and field testing of the various aspects and materials in language development. LITE collaborates with an educational institution for educational curriculum inputs. We work with diverse organizations, to empower mother tongue grass-root entities, in language, literacy and literature development of any kind, in their mother tongue. Towards this end, we share and resource the expertise of our technical partners, both in India and abroad.

Aspects

We have empowered more than 30 mother tongue communities across India in all or some of the following areas:

- Alphabet development

- orthography
